UPPER LEVEL TRAINING PROGRAM

Upper level classes at Joni's Dance Studio are designed to accommodate both recreational. Levels are designed to be mastered over the course of several years. Classes do have recommended ages but are geared toward technical ability to allow for maximum growth of a dancer's ability during the year.

**Certain classes have supplemental class requirements ** 

If an upper level dancer ages 12+ would like advanced level training WITHOUT

additional class requirements please visit our Dance Team Prep classes for Middle & High School dancers!

This will be strictly enforced- dancers will be evaluated periodically to ensure they are placed into the correct level.

Jazz Curriculum 

Level 4 

This class is a beginner level focused on developing a strong foundation of technique in the style of jazz which is necessary for progression. Dancers must be able to do the following: single jazz turn on both sides, split leap on both sides and high kick on both sides. Students enrolled in this class will be expected to have an understanding of jazz/ballet terminology.

Recommended Classes: Stretch & Ballet 4

Recommended ages 8-10.

Level 5

This class is considered an intermediate level for dancers who have had prior training in jazz. Dancers must be able to do the following: double jazz turn on both sides, split leap on both sides, leap in second on both sides.

Recommended Classes: Stretch, Ballet 5 & Leaps and Turns

Recommended ages 10-12.

Level 6

**Required Classes: Ballet 6

This class is considered an advanced level for dancers who have had several years of prior training in jazz. Dancers must be able to do the following: triple jazz turn on both sides, split leap on both sides, leap in second on both sides, calypso on both sides, tilt jumps on both sides, turns in second on both sides and demonstrate sufficient flexibility. 

Recommended Classes: Stretch,Supplemental Ballet & Leaps and Turns

Recommended ages 13-15.

Level 7

**Required Classes: Ballet 7 & Stretch 

This class is considered a pre-professional level for dancers who have had 5+ years of prior training in jazz and attend classes 3-4 days/week. Dancers must be able to do the following: consistent quad jazz turn on both sides, split leap on both sides, leap in second on both sides, calypso on both sides, firebird on both sides, tilt jump on both sides, turning russian, consistent 10 turns in second on both sides, inside/outside leg grab turn and have right/left/middle splits. 

Recommended Classes: Supplemental Balletand Leaps & Turns

Recommended ages 14+.

Prodigy Jazz

**Required Classes: Prodigy Ballet, 1- Supplemental Ballet, & Stretch

Leaps & Turns 

Leaps & Turns

**Required Classes:  Jazz class in respective level

This class is considered an supplemental class for our regular level jazz classes (5-Prodigy) and will focus on leap and turn variations. This class WILL NOT participate in annual spring recital.

Recommended ages 8+.

Ballet Curriculum

Level 4 

This class is a beginner level focused on developing a strong foundation of technique in the style of ballet which is necessary for progression. Dancers must know basic ballet terminology and demonstrate the ability to apply corrections. Students enrolled in this class will be trained at the barre and center floor using the Vaganova method. 

Recommended Classes: Stretch 

Recommended ages 7-9.

Level 5

This class is considered an intermediate level for dancers who have had prior training in ballet. Dancers must have a good knowledge of ballet terminology and demonstrate a good technical foundation. This class will follow the Vaganova method to train at the barre, center floor and expand on more advanced movement. 

Recommended Classes: Pointe/Pre-Pointe, Supplemental Ballet & Stretch

Recommended ages 10-12.

Level 6

**Required Classes: Stretch 

This class is considered an intermeidate/advanced level for dancers who have had several years of prior training in ballet. Dancers must have a good knowledge of ballet terminology, perform more advanced movement with a strong technical foundation, demonstrate sufficient flexibility and uphold the self discipline to continually apply corrections. This class will follow the Vaganova method to train at the barre, center floor and continue to expand on more challenging movement. 

Recommended Classes: Supplemental Ballet & Pointe/Pre-Pointe

Recommended ages 13-15.

Level 7

**Required Classes: Stretch & 1-Supplemental Ballet

This class is considered an advanced level for dancers who have had 5+ years of prior training in ballet and train 3-4 days/week. Dancers must have a solid knowledge of ballet terminology, perform advanced movement with an excellent technical foundation, demonstrate extensive flexibility and uphold the self discipline to continually apply corrections. This class will follow the Vaganova method to train at the barre, center floor and continue to expand on more challenging movement with incorporation into variations.

Recommended Classes: Pre-Pointe

Prodigy Ballet

Supplemental Ballet 5/6/7/P 

**Required Classes: Ballet class in respective level 

This class is considered an supplemental class for our regular level ballet classes (5-Prodigy). This class WILL NOT participate in annual spring recital.

Recommended ages 10+.

Pre-Pointe & Pointe 

**Required Classes: Ballet class in respective level 

This class is for dancers who have had several years of training in ballet and want to start working towards being on Pointe. This class is considered an supplemental class for our regular level ballet classes (5-Prodigy).  Dancers will start with pre-pointe strengthening and training until the teacher asks them to go on pointe. 

Recommended ages 10+.

Tap Curriculum 

Level 3/4

This class is considered a beginner/intermediate level for dancers who have had 2-3 years of prior training in tap. Dancers in this level must have a basic knowledge of tap terminology and have a good understanding of rhythm. Dancers in this level will continue to perfect their tap skills and enjoy bi-weekly class combinations that challenge their skills.

Recommended ages 6-9+

Level 4/5

This class is considered an intermediate level for dancers who have had 3-5 years of prior training in tap. Dancers in this level must have a thorough knowledge of tap terminology and have a good understanding of rhythm. Dancers in this level will continue to perfect their tap skills and enjoy bi-weekly class combinations that challenge their skills.

Recommended ages 10-12+

Level 6/7/P

This class is considered an advanced level for dancers who have had 5+ years of prior training in tap. Dancers in this level are expected to have extensive knowledge of tap terminology and be able to interpret music patterns and rhythms. Dancers in this level will enjoy weekly class combinations that challenge their skills and continue to learn advanced level moves.

Recommended ages 13+

Hip Hop Curriculum

Recommended ages 7-10.

Intermediate Hip Hop

This class is for dancers who have had 2-3 years of prior training in hip hop. Dancers must have good body awareness and be able to pick up choreography at a quick pace. Dancers in this level will learn skills and tricks unique to the style and given weekly combinations which encourage their own style through the different genres of hip hop.

Recommended ages 11-13.

Advanced Hip Hop

This class is for dancers who have had 4+ years of prior training in hip hop. Dancers in this level must have an excellent body awareness and demonstrate the ability to pick up choreography at a very quick pace. This class will focus on diverse varieties of movement found throughout the current styles of hip hop. Dancers will be challenged with class combinations and improvisation. 

Recommended ages 14+.

Prodigy Hip Hop

Contemporary/Lyrical Curriculum

Recommended ages 7-10.

Intermediate Contemporary/Lyrical 

This class is for dancers who have had 2-3 years of prior training in lyrical/contemporary. Dancers in this level must have a strong technical foundation and good body awareness. Dancers in this level will learn skills and tricks unique to the style and  given weekly combinations and improvisation challenges.

Recommended Classes: Stretch, Jazz, Ballet & Leaps and Turns

Recommended ages 10-12.

Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary/Lyrical 

This class is for dancers who have had 2-3 years of prior training in lyrical/contemporary. Dancers in this level must have a strong technical foundation and good body awareness. Dancers in this level will learn skills and tricks unique to the style and  given weekly combinations and improvisation challenges.

Recommended Classes: Stretch, Jazz, Ballet & Leaps and Turns

Recommended ages 12-14.

Advanced Contemporary/Lyrical 

**Required Classes: Ballet OR Jazz OR Dance Team Prep 

This class is for dancers who have had 4+ years of prior training in lyrical/contemporary. Dancers in this level must have a strong technical foundation, an excellent body awareness and demonstrate sufficient flexibility. This class will focus on diverse varieties of movement found throughout the current dance world. Dancers will be challenged with class combinations and improvisation as well as integrate the fundamentals of becoming a choreographer.

Recommended Classes: Stretch & Leaps and Turns

Recommended ages 14+.

Prodigy Contemporary/Lyrical

**Required Classes: Ballet, Jazz & Stretch 

This level is by teacher invite ONLY!

Recommended Classes: Leaps and Turns

Aerial Silks

Explore the unique world of aerial dancing with this specialty class. A class designed strictly for FUN!

This class WILL NOT participate in the annual spring recital.

Recommended ages 8+.
